We started to promote the SEA at mass meetings and all staff supported this promotional efforts. Pizza party for meeting 80% , posting dept. Of labor posters in all areas on center, counselor and SGA assisted with checking on student access while on chrome books, counselor worked in all areas on center to include dorm to check that a confirmations SEA survey email to show that it was submitted and received. Counselor led cheers and “pumping” up the SEA survey with the SGA members and students to get excited they can evaluate us as staff and the center.
We gave students a candy bag to those students that completed survey. Those students were also entered a raffle for a chance to win one of three gift baskets. Once a student completed survey and picked up candy bag we would highlight their name, this would show which students were pending to complete survey. Counselors would send student reminders to encourage all to open and complete survey. Instructors allowed students the first 15 minutes of class to check their emails for survey.
The center utilizes all promotional materials available on the SEA site. Posters are placed around center as a constant reminder for our students. Constant communication, students hear about the SEA in their dorms, education classes, trade classes, recreation, etc. Students are encouraged to take SEA to make a difference. They know this is their voice. Incentives for participation. We have a drawing for gift cards for any student who takes the survey. Staff buy-in! That’s the biggest help, meeting with staff to make sure they buy-in. During the week of the survey we create a schedule for all classes to utilize the computer lab so students can have the opportunity to take the survey. Instructors walk their classes to the lab at their designated time. The schedule repeats once everyone has gone. This way every student has an opportunity.
We set aside a few minutes during the day for each class to take the survey. We have found that giving them a set time to take it has increased our participation. The CD reminds the students during the assembly that the survey is coming up and a special lunch is given to the entire student body if the goal is reached.
Our center had an information session regarding the survey during one of the student business meetings. Also, promotional flyers were posted in classrooms and center bulletin boards. Additionally, class time was reserved for students to complete the survey.
